Considering that 23% of the world’s population and 60% of all megacities are located in lowland areas within 100 kilometres of the sea, coastal and delta wetlands are under increasing pressure. To prevent further decline we work with communities, government agencies and the private sector to monitor threats and develop practical on-the-ground conservation solutions.

Wetlands occur where water meets land. They include mangroves, peatlands and marshes, rivers and lakes, deltas, floodplains and flooded forests, rice-fields, and even coral reefs. We work in partnership with many different partners, including NGOs, private sector parties, and governments. We are also official partners of several global intergovernmental conventions. We are a reviewer of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPPC, and we are an official International Organization Partner of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
